“Staying well until a cure is found.”

Our ultimate goal is to discover a cure for diabetes. We know that this is a long road, but we are intent on maximising the potential by funding the highest quality clinical and scientific research at the very best research institutions in the UK and around the world.

DRWF is focused on supporting research to find better ways to manage diabetes, whilst maintaining our aim of finding a cure.

For progress towards cures we need deep understanding; such understanding is developed with research. Research is the life-blood of progress.

— Prof. David R. Matthews, University of Oxford

Diabetes Research Matters!

Your generosity makes this possible.

DRWF continues to fund vital research into finding a cure for diabetes, while supporting growing numbers of people living with diabetes in the UK. We rely on individual donations to enable us to continue work.

  • A regular donation means you can give a small gift every month that really makes a BIG difference to the work we do.
  • Regular donations help us to plan ahead and budget more effectively for future programmes.
  • They are also cheaper to administer, meaning that more of your gift goes right to the cause.

If you have any questions or need help making a donation, please contact us

We use GoCardless to process your direct debit payments. More information on how GoCardless processes your personal data and your data protection including your right to object, is available at https://gocardless.com/legal/privacy

"Thank you to all who donate to charities like DRWF as this funding can be used to make new discoveries that can make life easier for those living with diabetes."

Our Research Strategy

We publish a research strategy which sets out the types of funding we offer; who is eligible to apply; the processes we have in place to monitor results and how this information will be disseminated to our beneficiaries and stakeholders.

Our Funded Research

Our annual funding round is designed to support bright young researchers, as well as established institutions, as they strive to make the kind of life-changing breakthrough our diabetes community is hoping for.

Islet Cell Transplant

DRWF has made a significant commitment to Islet Cell Research and Transplant both in the UK and around the world. In 2004, we made an unprecedented grant to the Nuffield Department of Surgery at the Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford for islet cell research.

Our Heroes

For World Diabetes Day 2022 we produced Our Heroes, a short documentary that highlights the success stories from DRWF-funded research.

Synergy, transparency and integrity in all partnerships:

We do not endorse products, but we will support initiatives where there is an appropriate message, product or service for people with diabetes. To this end, we explore meaningful partnership and corporate sponsorship opportunities, where there is a synergy in mission, vision and values.

Any potential partnership is assessed for feasibility, risk and compatibility with our own objectives, to ensure there is no detriment to reputation.

Robust risk assessment supports our desire to only engage in suitable and best value partnerships.
Detailed discussion and negotiation ensures that both parties aims are complementary and mutually beneficial.
This ensures transparency and integrity in all partnerships.
