* Update 30 January 2019: Due to popular demand, applications for this camp are now closed
DRWF and Over The Wall present a new two night residential camp for families who have a child (aged 0-17) with type 1 diabetes.
The camp will be held from Friday 7th to Sunday 9th June, 2019 at Liddington PGL in Wiltshire.
Attending the camp is FREE - and all accommodation, food and activities are supplied by the charities.
"I don’t know how to even start to express our thanks to everyone for this weekend. The chance for our son to have a weekend away and feel ‘normal’ amongst his peers has been such a treat." - Camper parent
Care at camp
DRWF and Over The Wall are delighted to be collaborating on delivering an activity camp specifically for families with a child living with type 1 diabetes.
Our Volunteers are trained in the art of having fun and families can take part in a range of activities from arts and crafts to high ropes, climbing and zip wire challenges.
We also have Medical and Nursing Volunteers who have first-hand experience in dealing with type 1 diabetes. They will be there to welcome you to camp, support you throughout the weekend and ensure that your family gets the most out of your time with Over The Wall – and parents will have the opportunity to get some "me" time while we look after your young campers.
We try very hard to keep the medical aspects of camp as 'low profile' as possible; camp is about our campers having fun and not being defined by their medical condition.
All our activities are intentionally designed to be challenging and fun with Therapeutic Recreation (TR) at their core. TR has been proven to enhance a child’s sense of well-being through increasing independence and self-esteem.
Our goal is to ensure that campers gain, or regain, confidence, skills and an understanding of their own abilities.
Over The Wall’s residential programmes (rated outstanding by Ofsted), are designed to bring about transformational change, helping young people with long term conditions to tackle these issues.
DRWF and Over The Wall are working together to bring this opportunity specifically to families with children with type 1 diabetes in the hope that young campers return home with a new sense of their abilities and ambitions and feeling far less isolated.
