It is the end of an era at the DRWF office in Havant. After a sterling 26 years of service to the charity, Debra Peett is hanging up her DRWF T-shirt and heading off for pastures new.

Many of our Diabetes Wellness Network members and donors will know Debra, or at least have spoken to her on the telephone, as she has often been first point of contact for enquiries to the charity.

Debra joined DRWF in 1999, working alongside Dr Roslyn Elson who had been recruited to establish the charity and start a Diabetes Wellness and Research program. As with many young charities with very few staff, the work was varied and required the wearing of many hats in those early days.

Debra’s long-term hat played out as our ‘Wellness Network Administrator’. And whilst this has been her primary role, she has also played an integral part in many of the charity’s wider activities. You may even have met her at one of our Diabetes Wellness events.

Sarah Tutton, Chief Executive at DRWF, said: “Debra has been a warm, welcoming and friendly ear for many of our longstanding supporters who I am sure have valued the opportunity to connect with a caring person at the end of the line to answer queries about membership or just have a natter about diabetes and life in general.

“There are so many stories to tell of life at DRWF over 26 years, some we could share for the belly laughs, and some we should probably keep to ourselves! We consider the DRWF team to be a family and as with family life, we have navigated the ups and downs, and grown in every sense of the word together, and Debra has been central to that.”

As Debra embarks on this next chapter, we reflect on the remarkable journey that we have been on since she joined DRWF in 1999, the contribution that she has made to the charity’s success, and the friendship she has provided to the team and our supporters. We extend our sincere appreciation and wish her every happiness and fulfilment in whatever comes next. Good luck, Debra! Don’t forget us…
