Are you having a hypo? Know the symptoms
Order your FREE Diabetes Check-up Card during Hypo Awareness Week.
Being aware of the signs and reducing the risk of hypoglycaemic episodes is something people with type 1 diabetes deal with every day as part of their management of the condition.
The FREE DRWF Diabetes Check-up Card includes a list of symptoms of hypoglycaemia, of low blood sugar levels, to remind people with type 1 diabetes what to look out for.
The symptoms can include sweating, pallor, sleepiness, irritability, hunger and a lack of co-ordination.
People with type 2 diabetes on insulin therapy could also be at risk of having a hypoglycaemic episode.
During this year’s Hypo Awareness Week (5th to 11th October) healthcare professionals in hospitals and GP surgeries are invited to work together to raise awareness of a short-term complication faced by people with diabetes.
A hypo can happen when blood sugar levels of people with diabetes drop too low and they can feel shaky, unwell and, in serious cases, can slip into a coma.
DRWF offers our diabetes awareness necklace together with a diabetes check-up card FREE to anyone requesting them. We distribute more than 3,500 necklaces per year and as part of our outreach programme, receive no government funding. If you would like to enable us to continue providing a necklace, a small donation of £2 will help us to cover the cost.
Please donate now and support DRWF to ensure that people are "staying well until a cure is found..." Thank you.
To order your FREE necklace/medical check-up card please email enquiries@drwf.org.uk or call 023 9263 7808.
