Join DRWF and Over The Wall for our residential activity camp.

DRWF in partnership with Over The Wall welcome families with young children with diabetes to join us this summer for our annual residential T1D Wellness Family Camp.

This year’s event will be held from Friday, 10th May to Sunday, 12th May at NAYC and ACUK (Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs and Action Centres UK) at Whitemoor Lakes, Staffordshire.

Applications to register your place for this free event are open now. Please click here for more details.

Applications are open to families with a child or young person aged up to 17 with a diagnosis of type 1 diabetes. The whole family are welcome to attend together.

The Family Camp provides an opportunity for children and young people to reach beyond the boundaries of health challenges to discover a world of mischief, magic and new possibilities.

The two-night camp is a fun-packed weekend with a mix of high and low-intensity activities for the whole family to get involved in.

The camp provides an excellent opportunity to meet and bond with other families in similar situations.

Our wide range of activities allow families to have a weekend of fun, whilst also enjoying those quieter magic moments together and simply taking a break as a family.

Activities scheduled include climbing, archery, arts, crafts and board games.

Family Camp Girls

Families sleep in family rooms – with separate rooms for volunteers close by.

All meals are provided, and we will discuss any dietary and allergy requirements with you prior to the event.

The residential camp is held in a medically safe environment. Paramedics, doctors and nurses make up our clinical volunteer team, or ‘Beach Patrol’, as they are known at camp.

This means families are suitably supported with medical assistance on hand if required.

All activities are purposefully adapted around the camper’s needs, such as common medication times, at breakfast and after dinner.

Beach Patrol are always on hand to support the family as they take care of their own child or young person whilst at camp.

DRWF and Over The Wall will work closely with parents and families to ensure we can safely meet the medical needs of each child whilst at camp. We provide “home-from-home” care at camp, in addition to responding to all emergencies.

Dietary requirements discussed throughout your application will be catered for.

Camp is free of charge for families thanks to funding from generous donors and fundraisers.

To help you get to camp transport is provided from the nearest train station.

We reserve the right to close applications for this camp once we receive sufficient applications. Therefore, if you are interested, please submit your application as early as possible.

Sarah Tutton, DRWF Chief Executive, said: “Our Camps, whether residential or online, provide an amazing safe space to have fun and meet other families affected by type 1 diabetes. A warm and friendly place that encourages Campers to learn and grow in every sense with peer support at its heart.”
