Generous shop donations provide funding boost of £4,137 towards diabetes research.

DRWF has received a funding boost of £4,137.63 following being selected as a nominated charity by Southern Co-operative.

Money was raised through collection pots and fundraising activities at Southern Co-op stores across the South West of England.

Holly Bramble, Community Lead at the regional, independent co-operative, said: “Each of these local causes makes a difference in their local community. It is incredibly important to us, our colleagues and our members to make sure we support them in their efforts - whether that is a local school working to be more sustainable or a charity which cares for people in need.

“So we'd like to thank every shopper who put their pennies in the collection pots and every colleague who organised a fundraising activity. It's been a tough few years but it is wonderful to see people continuing to support each other where they can.”

The funding boost was bolstered by a fundraising programme that supports local organisations by donating 2p for every £1 spent by Co-op Members on selected products and services. Over the last six years almost £350,000 donated was donated to causes in Dorset through this Local Community Fund.

Tim Green, Head of Community Fundraising at DRWF, said: “We were absolutely thrilled to have been chosen by multiple stores of the Southern Co-Operative group to be their charity of the year partner for 2021. The announcement arrived in the midst of a global pandemic meaning the ability to work with the stores in our traditional in person way was somewhat reduced; but this just motivated us more to support each store, their team and ultimately their customers so much more.

“We were able to provide stores with our branded literature, collection tins and a dedicated point of contact throughout their journey with us. Many of the stores planned in person events were either cancelled or postponed on the grounds of public safety; which meant we relied on the generosity of the general public to support us and donate what they could manage.

“Partnerships like these have multiple aims and objectives but it was clear from the start that brand and cause awareness was very much a priority given that external factors meant we weren’t able to fundraise in the same traditional way.

“At the end of our partnership, our seven strong store partnership across Hampshire delivered a staggering £4,137.63!

“Thank you to everyone involved with this partnership and most importantly to the staff and customers of Southern Co-Operative.”
