Second annual walk across historic Portsmouth seafront raising funds for DRWF in the charity’s 25th anniversary year.

DRWF has announced details of the second annual Diabetes Dawdle – a healthy walking event for people living with diabetes and their carers and supporters.

The family-friendly sponsored walk is set to take place on Saturday, 30th September – with two distance routes scheduled.

The meeting place for the event is at the Spice Island Inn, Old Portsmouth from 10.30am with an option of a 4-mile or 7-mile route.

Families are welcome to take part in the walk, and bring along their dogs, for the walk that is also accessible for wheelchair users and pushchairs.

Parking is available nearby to the starting point, and there are three public toilets stops along the route.

The flat and accessible route starts in Old Portsmouth before taking you on a journey through historic Southsea.

You will pass landmarks such as the Square Tower, built in 1494 during the reign of Henry VII and the Royal Garrison Church, built in around 1212 by the Bishop of Winchester.

You will have breath-taking views out across the Solent for large sections of the walk, passing both of Portsmouth's piers (the perfect opportunity to stop for an ice cream!). Before circling back and finishing your sponsored walk with stunning views of the Spinnaker Tower and Gunwharf Quays; proudly wearing your completion medal.

Virtual walkers

If Portsmouth is too far for you to get to, this year you can walk wherever suits you best as a virtual entry in our Diabetes Dawdle.

Choose your own location and distance and receive all the same benefits as our walkers attending the event in Portsmouth.

We will send you your T-shirt and medal, and best of all you will still be supporting young people and their families across the UK living with all types of diabetes.

Registration for the event includes your entry, complimentary bottle of water and sealed flapjack, DRWF T-shirt and a finishers medal.

We ask for £50 minimum sponsorship per person or £75 per family.

The money you raise will support people across the UK living with all types of diabetes and ensure we can continue to deliver on our research and educational commitments. Your involvement means that, together, we are investing in a brighter future for people with diabetes.
