Healthcare professionals offered resources to recognise symptoms type 2
Resources to assist primary care staff in identifying and supporting individuals who could be “at risk” of developing type 2 diabetes.
Healthcare professional support organisation Trend Diabetes has launched a new leaflet designed to support primary care staff working with people at risk of developing diabetes.
It is estimated that more than 7 million people in the UK could be at risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
Trend Diabetes said the new resources come at a critical time to address this growing health concern.
Being at risk of type 2 diabetes is characterised by blood glucose levels that are higher than normal but not yet high enough to be classified as diabetes.
Trend Diabetes has developed a new leaflet to aid primary care staff in identifying and supporting these individuals.
Recognising the urgent need for guidance and resources, the leaflet also provides crucial advice for those already diagnosed as at risk of developing diabetes, helping them make lifestyle changes to delay the onset of type 2 diabetes.
June James, Co-Chair of Trend Diabetes and Independent Consultant in Diabetes Nursing, said: “The increasing number of individuals considered at risk of diabetes in the UK presents additional challenges for our healthcare services.
“This new leaflet aims to equip GPs. other healthcare professionals and people who are at risk with the tools they need to support efforts to reverse this condition by making simple changes to diet and activity levels.”
