Impact of artificial technologies and prevention strategies to be focus of diabetes footcare conference
Healthcare experts working in diabetes-related footcare to discuss latest developments in treatment at online conference.
Presentations covering a wide spectrum of diabetes-related foot healthcare will be made at an upcoming diabetes footcare conference.
Healthcare professionals working in diabetes-related footcare will delve into topics such as prevention strategies and the transformative potential of artificial intelligence (AI) at the English Diabetes Footcare Network (EDFN) annual conference.
The free-to-attend, online conference will feature keynote speakers, case studies, panel discussions on Friday, May 9, between 1pm and 4.45pm and is open to anyone interested in lower limb care.
Richard Leigh, chair of the EDFN and Consultant Podiatrist said: “With the release of the agenda for this year's national conference, we are excited to welcome leading experts to share groundbreaking insights into diabetes footcare.
“As we address critical topics such as prevention strategies and the transformative potential of AI, this conference represents a pivotal moment for advancing care and shaping the future of foot health.”
He added: “Together, we are setting the stage for innovative solutions that will improve outcomes for those living with diabetes.”
The agenda includes topics including Saving the NHS: Why you matter?, presented by Stella Vig, Consultant Vascular and General Surgeon, National Medical Director for Secondary Care and Quality, and National Clinical Director for Elective Care.
Consultant Vascular Surgeon Arun Pherwani will share the findings of the National Vascular Registry’s latest review on the health of lower limb services.
Vascular Nurse Consultant Leanne Atkin will discuss whether the NHS should commission ‘diabetic foot’ or ‘acute lower limb’ services for prevention and treatment.
During the conference, Consultant Physician Michael Edmonds and Podiatrist Paul Chadwick will participate in a debate, addressing the question: Should multidisciplinary foot teams operate within community settings? This discussion will be followed by Consultant Podiatrist Matthew Allen, who will explore which lower limb hospital services could be transitioned to community care.
A session outlining the possibilities for digital and AI in lower limb care will be presented by Podiatrist Patricia Lee. Consultant Vascular Surgeon Dave Russell will conclude the event by revealing the results of the MIDFUT (Multiple Interventions for Diabetic Foot Ulcer Treatment) trial.
