Manufacturer celebrates five years of real-time continuous glucose monitoring
Half a decade since lives of people living with diabetes changed with technological development to manage diabetes.
Diabetes device manufacturer Dexcom is this week celebrating five years since they launched their revolutionary real-time continuous glucose monitoring system.
The device meant people living with diabetes no longer had to scan, or use finger prick tests, to monitor their blood glucose levels.
A statement from Dexcom said: “In 2018, we brought the world the first CGM that truly delivered on the promise of this life-changing technology with the Dexcom G6.
“The Dexcom G6 was the first sensor to require no fingersticks (finger pricks required for diabetes treatment decisions if symptoms or expectations do not match readings) or scanning to retrieve your data, as well as being real-time, easy to apply and simple to use.
“In addition, Dexcom G6 offers connectivity with multiple pumps and digital health apps. Today, along with our G7 and Dexcom ONE sensor, the G6 remains a tried-and-true companion for many living with diabetes, especially those using automated insulin delivery (AID) systems.”
As recently reported, Dexcom published a study in Diabetes Therapy providing evidence to back up use of rtCGM devices for people with type 2 diabetes following previous research that suggested their technology was cost-effective for people with type 1 diabetes in 2020 in the UK.
