Study on the Determinants of Diabetes Prevention and Remission among People in the Black Country Area of West Midlands

People with type 2 diabetes invited to participate in University of Wolverhampton research.

A researcher is looking for people living with type 2 diabetes to participate in a study on prevention and remission from the condition.

The study will focus on feedback from people with type 2 diabetes, in particular people of Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds living in the Black Country Region of West Midlands due to higher diagnoses of the condition among this population group.

The "Determinants of Diabetes Prevention and Remission among People in the Black Country Area of West Midlands" study is being conducted by Marafee Omar, a PhD Student within the Research Institute in Healthcare Sciences at the University of Wolverhampton. The study is also being supported by Dr. Opeolu Ojo, the director of the study. 

Marafee said: “The focus of my study revolves around determinants of diabetes prevention and remission. The target populations for the study are all people in the UK. However, special attention will be given to people from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic backgrounds living in the Black Country Region of West Midlands due to the prevalence of the condition among this population group.

“By conducting this research, I aim to gain valuable insights that will contribute to a better understanding of the impact of diabetes in the West Midlands.”

Volunteers for the project will be provided with a survey to complete, with results kept anonymous in confidentiality.

Marafee said: “A research questionnaire, in the form of a project information sheet, which clearly provides details of the research and the level of involvement required from participants, will be distributed to willing participants prior to recruitment.”
