Winners announced at 10th annual Quality in Care Diabetes awards
This year’s event celebrating diabetes healthcare professionals was broadcast online by livestream.
NHS teams from Southampton, Liverpool, London, Wales and Cornwall were among those recognised at the tenth annual Quality in Care (QiC) Diabetes Awards.
The 2020 QiC Diabetes Awards results saw Lizbeth Hudson named as Outstanding Educator in Diabetes and Sheffield pick up the Diabetes Team of the Year.
This year QiC Diabetes worked in collaboration with NHS Wales and NHS England who gave their support to the second NHS Wales Outstanding Contribution for Services in Diabetes which went to Dr Rose Stewart and the fourth NHS England Outstanding Contribution Award for Services in Diabetes, which went to Nick Cahm.
The awards ceremony celebrated 10 years of recognising and rewarding good practice quality in diabetes management, education and services for people with diabetes and/or their families.
Each year healthcare professionals and anyone else working in diabetes care are invited to nominate inspirational work in the following categories: Outstanding Educator in Diabetes, Diabetes Professional of the Year and the People’s Award.
A Quality in Care award means an initiative has been recognised by the NHS, patients and industry as improving the quality of life for people living with diabetes.
Vicki Alabraba, a DSN at Liverpool Diabetes Partnership, was named Diabetes Professional of the Year
The tenth annual awards ceremony was held virtually on Thursday, 15th October. The awards host was Alan Dedicoat, TV show announcer, best known as the "Voice of the Balls" on the National Lottery programmes.
Originally scheduled to be held at Sanofi’s headquarters in Reading, due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the Quality in Care Diabetes team and Sanofi made the difficult decision not to hold a live event in 2020.
A statement from QiC Diabetes said: “Obviously at this time, the health and safety of our entrants, attendees, supporters, judges, and programme partner are of paramount importance.
“QiC Diabetes recognises initiatives that improve the quality of life for people living with diabetes, as judged by the NHS, patients and industry.”
The Quality in Care Diabetes 2020 Awards are supported by DRWF.
Sarah Tutton, DRWF Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to be asked to support the Quality in Care Diabetes programme again this year and share in the recognition of achievement of inspiring and dedicated people.”
DRWF staff members attended the event, this time from the comfort of their own living room’s, with rumours that some went to great lengths in their efforts to dress up smartly especially for the occasion.
